Wannabe Gonzo isn’t just a collection of concert reviews; it’s an active exploration into the mechanics of modern connection. By stepping directly into the crowd, this honors project sets out to achieve a few things:
Flipping the Academic Script: Traditional research tells you to stand back, take notes, and stay completely objective. Honestly? I think you miss the whole point that way. By using Gonzo journalism, I want to prove that diving headfirst into the middle of the crowd gives you a much more real, deeper understanding of a scene than watching it from a safe distance ever could.
Stepping Outside of the Echochamber: Personally, this is a challenge to stop listening to the same three playlists on repeat. By forcing myself to go to shows, talk to fans, and analyze artists completely outside my comfort zone, I’m hoping to break out of my own echo chamber and get a massive, unfiltered view of how the wider music industry actually operates.
